Pictured is the 2022 Black River Falls Fire Department and Emergency Rescuse team. Their response area covers over 1,000 square miles, which includes most of JC and two townships in Clark County. It serves over 20,000 residents living in the city of BRF and the villages and/or townships of Melrose, Franklin, Irving, Manchester, Millston, Springfield, Albion, Brockway, Curran, Hixton, Alma, Alma Center, Adams, Komensky, City Point, Garden Valley, Merrillan, Hatfield, Dewhurst and Mentor. The department is hosting a celebration Aug. 20, celebrating its 150th anniversary.

     On a Sunday morning in March of 1860, a disastrous fire occurred in Black River Falls (BRF). The entire business district burned down with the exception of three buildings. A total of 40 buildings were destroyed by the fire.       Fast forward to July of 1870, when the Spaulding house burned....
