Doris Wensel
Doris Louise Wensel, 91, passed away April 25, 2022, at the Grand View Care Center in Blair.
Doris was born May 26, 1930, to Axel and Gladys (Horswill) Odeen in Sparta. She was united in marriage to Garth Wensel June 8, 1953, in Black River Falls.
Doris stayed busy her whole life. She taught first grade for over 40 years and loved the phrase, “A smart kid is never bored.” At home, she was usually busy in the kitchen or helping on the family farm. So many molasses cookies were baked, and it was well known if you were at her house on Sunday, there would always be homemade strawberry shortcake. She always believed in serving hot meals to the farm help for both dinner and supper. Doris was a faithful and active member for many years of Trout Run Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and the Women’s Auxiliary for the Masonic Lodge. Overall, her pride and joy had always been her family, especially all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons, Paul (Kara) Wensel and Jeffrey (Lynn) Wensel; grandchildren Rebecca (Scott) DeGroot, Joseph (Tristine Bauman) Wensel, Jennifer (Matt) Dercks, Matt Wensel, Beth (Scott) Mosher, Zach (Ashley) Wensel and Brad Wensel; great-grandchildren Ethan, Jeremy, Alexandra, Kaydee, Emma, Noah, Haley and baby girl Mosher (due in July).
Doris is preceded in death by her parents; husband Garth; brother Bruce Odeen; infant brother David Odeen; and daughter-in-law Judith Wensel.
Funeral services for Doris will be held Monday, May 16, 2022, at the United Methodist Church (101 Douglas St. Melrose, WI 54642) at 11 a.m. Pastor John Paul will officiate. Friends and family are welcome to call on family Sunday, May 15, 2022, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Buswell Funeral Home, 106 S. 2nd St., Black River Falls, WI 54615 and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at the church. Burial will immediately follow the funeral service at the Trout Run Methodist Cemetery with a luncheon at the Trout Run Methodist Church after burial (W4292 Cty X, Black River Falls, WI 54615).
