RICHARD A “DICK” BREITENBACH

     Richard A “Dick” Breitenbach, 85, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2023, doing what he loved most, out for a ride on his Harley-Davidson. He was born Oct. 26, 1937, in Black River Falls, WI, the second child of Harold and Theresa (Paar) Breitenbach. Richard met the love of his life and married Janice Roseland in 1960.  

     He was a devoted father and grandfather; he made memories teaching life lessons to his kids and grandkids. He paid it forward with his knowledge to anyone that was willing to listen, from gardening, making sauerkraut, canning tomato juice or how to make oyster stew over the holidays. He looked forward to early spring trout fishing and in the fall, you could find him in a tree stand. He shared the value of the outdoors, to enjoy it, to respect it, and most of all, share it with family. He had values that everyone should strive for being kind to all, showing empathy in times of need, and a grand optimistic approach to life. He promoted that hard work does pay off. He worked for 26 years as a welder fitter for Harnischfeger. He retired as vice president of labor relations for the United Steelworkers of America.

     Dick will be remembered for his profound love for his family. He is survived by his daughter, Melanie (Ajay) Jacob; sons Paul (Sara) Breitenbach and Leigh (Tina) Breitenbach; grandchildren, Saranya and Vikram Jacob, Riley, Gabi, Grace, Reece and Max Breitenbach, and Jadyn Breitenbach; sisters Monica Bunch, Sharon Johnson and Mary (Gerald) Stark. He is further survived by his special companion, Geri Wicklund, and many other relatives and friends. 

     He was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife of 46 years, Janice “Rosebud.”

     Memorial services will be held Friday, July 7, 2023, at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids. Visitation is to be held from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the services at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be held at a later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Alma Center, WI.
