EVERETT “BUD” THOMPSON
Everett “Bud” Thompson, 99, of Richland Center passed away Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023, at the Richland Hospital. Bud was born Sept. 5, 1924, in Eau Claire, WI, the son of Martin and Magna (Dahl) Thompson. Bud attended grade school in Northfield, WI, and high school in Whitehall, WI. While in his senior year, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving three years in the combat engineers, two years in Patton’s Third Army in Europe and in the Battle of the Bulge and one year in the Philippines and Japan until the war ended.
Bud was married to the former Peggy Jennings Dec. 6, 1947, and from that union they had three children. Bud and Peg were married 70 years when Peg passed away.
Following his military discharge, Bud went to work for Schultz Bros. Co. for a total of 40 years, managing stores at Barron, Stoughton and Richland Center for 30 of those years. He was then appointed district supervisor of 12 stores in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin for the last 10 years, retiring in 1987. After retirement, he was appointed to various commissions for the city of Richland Center, including 15 years on the Housing Authority, five years on the Police and Fire Commission, and four years on the Water and Sewer Commission. He was part-time baliff for the circuit court of Richland County for 10 years and helped on various fund-drives. Bud liked to hunt, fish, golf, ride mopeds and go to his cabin in Hatfield, WI. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Richland Center American Legion Post #13 and the 40&8.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy McCumber and Laurie Thompson, both of Richland Center; three grandchildren, Tiffany (Will) Wanless, Josh (Renza) Thompson and Heather Thompson; four great-grandchildren, Jon Carrasquillo, Peyten, Jorden and Teagen Thompson; special friends Eric and Dianne, Nate and Gary.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Magna Thompson; his wife, Peggy Thompson; a son, Michael Thompson; grandson Jon Roh; a great-grandson, Ian Townsend; a brother, Archie Thompson; and a sister, Betty Jane Kimpton.
Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 24, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the Stafford Funeral Home in Richland Center, where military graveside rites will be conducted by the local Veterans Military Memorial Honor Unit. Visitation will be held Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be held Monday, Nov. 27, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. at the Upper Pigeon Cemetery in Northfield, WI.
