BETTY MAE HILL

     Betty Mae Hill “Betz”, 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Dec. 12, 2023, at Meadowbrook in Black River Falls, WI.

     Betty was born to William and Alberta (Sopher) Payne Oct. 24, 1942, in Madison, WI. Betty later met the love of her life, Vernon Lyle Hill, and they married Feb. 14, 1959.

     Betty and Vernon lived in Beloit, WI, where they began to raise their six beautiful children. Later, the family moved to Hatfield, WI, where Betty was mostly a homemaker, raising her children. Betty worked as a housekeeper at the Pines Hotel in Black River Falls for a short time. Betty enjoyed spending her free time sewing and playing the slot machines at Ho-Chunk Gaming. Betty additionally loved spending her time with her grandchildren. One of the fondest memories of Betty’s grandchildren is of Betty hitting and running over all of the curbs as she dropped them off at the deer park swimming pool for the day.

     Betty later moved into the Family Heritage Nursing Home (Meadowbrook) after she had lost her loving husband. Betty liked getting her hair and nails done and joining in on the many activities with her roommate and friend, Bonnie. She especially enjoyed playing bingo.

     Betty is survived by her brothers Kenneth Payne, Frank Payne and Randy Payne; sisters Diane Wolfe, Lydia Pinnon, Debra Triana and Rebecca Wolfe; daughters Barbara (Anthony) Burlingame and Sandra Hill; sons Vernon (Shannon) Hill Jr. and Richard (Jen) Hill; and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

     Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Hill Sr.; brothers David Payne and Edward Payne; sister Linda O’Leary; son Timothy Hill; daughter Cynthia Hill; granddaughter Brandi Burlingame; and great-grandson Caleb Burlingame. 

     The family would like to thank the staff at Meadowbrook for the care and kindness they provided to Betty throughout the years. 

     Many people would agree that Betty was a very kind, sweet, loving person who would do anything to help you out. She was loved by so many.

     Funeral services for Betty Hill were held Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the Buswell Funeral Home of Black River Falls. Friends were invited to visitation at the Funeral Home from 10 am until the start of services.
