DARLENE LAVERE (DANIELSON) HANSEN
Darlene LaVere (Danielson) Hansen peacefully passed away Jan. 2, 2024, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Darlene was born Jan. 24, 1936, in Ettrick, WI, to Francis and Thea Danielson. She married Donald Hansen Dec. 31, 1953, at Little Norway Lutheran Church in Black River Falls, WI. After Don’s military service, they moved to Hawthorne, CA, where they raised their three boys, Dale, David and Dana. Darlene was passionate about continuing her education. While raising a family, she went back to college to achieve her bachelor of science nursing degree. Darlene worked at Centinela Medical Center (Inglewood, CA) for 25 years as a registered nurse, floor coordinator, home health professional and director of rehabilitation. She was accomplished in providing quality care and earned the admiration and respect of her colleagues.
Darlene was engaged in various charitable activities at Trinity Lutheran Church (Hawthorne, CA) before relocating to Ypsilanti, MI, in 2004, where she joined Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Darlene was an avid traveler throughout her life. With her husband, family, friends or new relationships, Darlene saw the world. She immersed herself in the mission, culture and history everywhere she went. She traveled to Norway several times, as well as tours to Asia, the Mediterranean, Australia/New Zealand and across the United States. At home, Darlene devoted many hours to quilting projects, facetiming her great-grandchildren and catching up with family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald; parents; sister Mary; and brothers Laverne, Arlan and Helmer.
Darlene is survived by her sons, Dale (Marilyn) Hansen, David (Kristine Tucker) Hansen and Dana (Lynn) Hansen; grandchildren Marissa (Jack) Deakin and Drew (Candace) Hansen; and four great-grandchildren, John/Marit Deakin and Chloe/Corin Hansen.
Memorial services were held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 201 N. River Street, Ypsilanti, MI 48198 Jan. 15, 2024, at 11 a.m. and at Little Norway Lutheran Church, Black River, WI, on a date to be determined.
