ALLAN HOSTRAWSER

     Allan Hostrawser, 93, of Black River Falls passed away April 12, 2024, at Black River Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. 

     He and his twin sister were born Jan. 22, 1931, in West Allis, WI, to Harley and Cynthia Hostrawser. The family moved back to Black River Falls when Allan was in his teens, and he went on to graduate from Black River Falls High School in 1949. He married MaryLou Pauley in 1953 with whom he raised two daughters. They later separated.

     Allan worked for Nelson Muffler while also working nights at Federation Co-op. He then worked for Quick Electric and became an expert electrician before later beginning a career with the City of Black River Falls in the water and sanitation department until his retirement. During the 1970s, Allan was an alderman and a member of the fire and emergency services in Black River Falls. He was also a longtime member of the Wisconsin National Guard and was briefly stationed at Fort Lewis, WA, from 1962-63. 

     Allan enjoyed working in his garage, shop and yard. He was an excellent woodworker, and he used these skills, as well as his experience as an electrician, while working with his brothers to build the house he lived in. He resided there until a month before his passing. Additionally, he took flying lessons and after receiving his pilot’s license, he enjoyed attending the EAA in Oshkosh and even built two experimental airplanes. After his retirement he also took up golfing.

     Allan was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters: Pearl (Heath), Price, Dean, Glenn, Janice (Wesley), William, Joyce (Hawley) and Alice (Hall).

     He is survived by his twin sister, Barbara (Mills); daughters Cathy Deckert and Barb (Dave) Neumann; nephew Jim (Roxie) Hostrawser, with whom he shared many years of care and companionship; sister-in-law Darlene Hostrawser; niece Janet Gaier; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

     Per Allan’s request, there will be no funeral service. An interment service will be held June 14, 2024, at Riverside Cemetery at 11 a.m.
