JANET EDITH (PETERS) HUDSON
Janet Edith (Peters) Hudson, 86, of Hixton, WI, passed away with her family by her side July 12, 2024, at the BeeHive Assisted Living, where she had resided the last two years.
Janet was born Aug. 16, 1937, to Frank (Archie) and Pearl Peters in Wheaton, MN. Janet was the nineth of 10 children. She grew up on a farm and attended school in Chokio, MN. Her family later moved to Goodland, MN, where Janet graduated from high school in Nashwauk, MN.
1955 was an exciting year; Janet graduated in May, turned 18 in August and got married to the love of her life, Richard, in November. They made their home in Goodland, MN, where they had Ricky, Lisa, Scott and Rhonda. In 1969, Richard transferred from the Virginia, MN iron mine to the Jackson County Iron Mine in Black River Falls, WI. They settled in Hixton, WI.
Motherhood was her life. In 1971, Ricky passed away from leukemia. Two years later, Darin was born. Janet held a couple jobs besides being a full-time wife and mother. She waitressed in Minnesota, worked at Steven’s Interstate and the Hixton Egg Co. Janet’s real passion was baking. In 1977, she opened a bakery in her home. She made wedding cakes, cakes for every occasion, sweet rolls and at Christmas time, made cookie boxes and peanut brittle.
Janet was an avid poem writer. No matter the occasion or happening, she could write a poem for or about it. Her poem, “The Miracle”, she wrote when her sister, Hazel, passed away. She has that poem patented. She also did the clues for the Founder’s Day medallion hunt. No one got off easy on those clues!
She was very active in the Hixton United Methodist (UM) Church. She was Sunday school superintendent for more years than we can remember. She held many positions on the board and was active in the UM Women’s Club. Janet was also very involved in Christian Women’s Club. She was chairman for many years and held other positions as well. Also, she was a speaker for Christian Women’s Club and traveled to other clubs in Wisconsin and out of state to share her salvation story.
Once Richard retired, they started traveling and were snowbirds in Clearwater, FL, every winter. They even ran a small café in the tourist town of Tincup, CO, for three summers. So, the bakery had to go. Even after Richard’s passing in 2012, Janet kept going to Florida for the winters.
Janet’s love for her family was unconditional. She loved her children, and grandchildren were a real bonus. When the great-grandchildren arrived…she had hit the jackpot. She had a drawer in the kitchen with candy in it. When the grandchildren were ready to go home, her saying was, “One for the mouth and two for the pocket!” No matter what the parents thought!
She will be greatly missed by her family, but we know she is rejoicing with Richard and Ricky.
Janet is survived by her four children, Lisa (Daniel) Ripp, children: Andrew Ripp, Christopher (Anna) Ripp, Katie (Thomas) Dziadosz, Samuel (Hannah) Ripp; Scott (Andrea) Hudson, children: Tim (Amanda) Hudson, Amanda (Brady) Bleskacek, Melinda Hudson (fiancé Eric), David (Becca) Hudson; Rhonda (Gary) Ammann, children: Mitchell (Tyler) Ammann, Jessa (Robbie) Peterson; and Darin (Kristi) Hudson, children: Karli and Becca Hudson; and 14 great-grandchildren: Madelyn and Ellianna Ripp, Quinn and Ezra Dziadosz, Maverick, Xander and Everly Hudson, Benjamin and Carter Bleskacek, Jackson Hudson, Benson, Wesley and Hadley Ammann, Nolan Peterson and one on the way.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; son Ricky; her parents; brothers Merlin, Harley and David; and sisters Virene, Hazel and Rosella.

The funeral service for Janet will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2024, at the United Methodist Church in Alma Center. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at the Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home in Hixton. Visitation will continue at the church Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow in Sechlerville Cemetery.
