JOSEPH PETER (JOE) ROSKOS
Joseph Peter (Joe) Roskos, 86, of Black River Falls went to live eternal life with Jesus Oct. 19, 2024. He was on hospice care and surrounded by family during this time.
Joe was born Feb. 28, 1938, to Alex and Rose (Marsolek) Roskos. He grew up in Black River Falls and graduated from Black River Falls High School in 1956. He then joined the United States Air Force and was stationed at Williams Field in Arizona, was honorably discharged in 1960. He attended Brown Institute of Technology and graduated with his engineering technician degree in 1970.
He married Judith Hermanson in 1961. They lived throughout the Midwest most of their married life and moved back to Black River Falls in 2002. He enjoyed the Arizona area so much that once they retired, they wintered in Mesa, AZ. Joe worked for several radio stations in the Midwest as a chief engineer and retired in 2001.
Joe enjoyed learning new things and how things worked, including new endeavors like going into partnership on a Honky Tonk and radio stations. In 1994, he got his private pilot’s license and flew his planes as much as he could. Joe was a proud member of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) and attended the fly-in each year in Oshkosh, WI. He had a positive attitude on life and shared it with all that he met. His family feels so blessed to have had such a loving person in their lives.
Surviving Joe are his two daughters, Marie (Dennis) Dolecheck of Eloy, AZ, and Nancy Roskos of Apache Junction, AZ; his son James Roskos of Elkhart, IN; a daughter-in-law Carol (Doyle) Roskos of Loves Park, IL; and a son-in-law, Paul (Kathy) Bernard of Loves Park, IL; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rosemary (Durwood) Ronnigen, of Coon Valley, WI, Mary (Wayne) Engen of Sarona, WI, and Patricia (Patti) Gunn of Appleton, WI; one brother, Thomas (Tom) Roskos of Black River Falls, WI; two sisters-in-law, Shari Kidrick of Herford, AZ, and Rosalie Hermanson of Black River Falls. WI; and two brothers-in-law, Arlan (Herb) Hermanson of Black River Falls, WI, and Gene Hermanson of Madison, WI. He is further survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Roskos; parents, Alex and Rose Roskos; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold and Doris Hermanson; his daughter, Kathy (Paul) Bernard and son Doyle Roskos; his grandson Brian Bernard; his sister-in-law and brother, Sandra and Ben Roskos; his sisters-in-law, Beverly Hermanson and Kayleen (Kenny) Kersting; his brothers-in-law, Durwood Ronnigen, Larry and Tony Hermanson and Kenneth Kersting.
A Mass of Christian burial for Joe will be held Friday, Oct. 25, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Guardian Angels Catholic Church – St. Joseph’s Parish, 507 Main St., in Black River Falls. Father Arivu Mariappan will celebrate the Mass with a burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery in Black River Falls. Friends may call on the family during visitations, Thursday, Oct. 25, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Torgerson Funeral Home, 408 N. Water St., in Black River Falls, and Friday at the church one hour before the Mass, from 9 to 10 a.m.
