In 1972, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and proudly served in Germany until his honorable discharge in 1974. Michael often joked that it was “the only draft he ever won.”

Michael had a deep passion for softball and spent many years pitching for local teams. His teammates affectionately nicknamed him “Fridge,” a name that stuck with him both on and off the field. Teammates often joked about how they knew “Fridge” was rounding the bases as they could hear the jingling of his pocket change and keys, a sound that always brought a smile.

His love for the game extended beyond the field as well, Michael spent several years coaching his son’s baseball team, sharing his knowledge, patience and humor with the next generation of ballplayers. He took great pride in helping kids learn the game and always encouraged them to play hard, have fun, and be good teammates.

Michael was a devoted and loving father to his son, Tim, a caring stepfather to Nick and a proud grandfather to Loreali and Byron, Matthew and Austin, McKenzie, Dylan and Layne. He was also a loyal friend to many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
