AUTUMN MACHADO LAES

AUTUMN MACHADO LAES
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Autumn Machado Laes, a beloved daughter, sister, Nani, cousin and friend. Autumn was called home in April of the year 2025 at the age of 49. Born Sept. 21, 1976, in Green Bay, WI, to her mother, Iris Smith, and father, Richard Laes. Autumn was a proud Ho-Chunk Native American woman whose heart belonged to her home in Black River Falls, WI.
Autumn embraced life with a vibrant spirit and a deep appreciation for the simple joys. She found immense pleasure in the beauty of the outdoors, often spending time hiking and connecting with nature. Music filled her soul with joy, and she expressed her creativity and love through the art of cooking, always eager to share a meal with those she cherished. Above all, Autumn treasured the moments spent with her friends and family, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and love.
Autumn is survived by her loving brothers, Ira Laes, Bobby Wilkinson and Uriah Lewis; her dear Nanis, Regina Reel and Barb Smith; her cousins, Somer and Cheyenne Reel; her niece, Jocelyn Kimps; and numerous other nieces, nephews and extended family members who will deeply miss her presence in their lives.
As a proud member of the Ho-Chunk Nation, Autumn held her heritage close to her heart. In this time of sorrow, we turn to the wisdom of her ancestors: Great Spirit, Creator of all; we gather before you with hearts filled with sorrow. A life, like a young sapling, has been taken too soon. Autumn’s journey on this earth, though vibrant and full of promise, has reached its end before its time.
We do not understand the path you have laid before her, but we trust in your wisdom and your boundless love. Embrace her spirit now, guide her on her journey to the next world. May she find peace and rest among our ancestors.
Comfort us, the ones left behind, with the strength to carry on. Help us to remember the joy she brought into our lives, the laughter she shared, and the love she so freely gave. Though her physical presence is gone, may her spirit forever live on in our hearts. Hoka hey.
A visitation was held Friday, April 25, at 9:30 a.m. at Torgerson’s Funeral Home, Black River Falls, with services to follow at 11 a.m. to celebrate Autumn’s life and the impact she had on all who knew her.
Autumn’s memory will forever be cherished by her family and friends. May she rest in peace.
