Bruce R. Blackdeer

Bruce R. Blackdeer, 71, of Wisconsin Dells, WI, passed Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026, due to health issues.  

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 3, 2026, at the Blackdeer Homestead, Town of Brockway, Jackson County, Wisconsin, with Chief Clayton Winneshiek officiating.  Visitation was held from 10:30 a.m. until the traditional 12 p.m. (noon) service begins. Burial followed in the Blackdeer Family Cemetery.

Bruce was born June 8, 1955, at St. Mary’s Ringling Hospital in Baraboo, WI.  Bruce was the son of William (Bill) and Lila (Greengrass) Blackdeer.  

Throughout his lifetime, Bruce enjoyed fishing, trapping, deer hunting and other outdoor sports.  He was generous in sharing his fishing expertise by sharing tips with his younger relatives; he wanted others to enjoy fishing as much as he did.  He would often reminisce about his years spent as a “Brockway Bomber” under his dad’s coaching.  Bruce enjoyed watching military, war and western movies; his DVD collection is comprised of his favorites.  Bruce was also an avid reader.  He loved westerns and his favorite fiction authors were Louis L’Amour and Zane Grey.  These stories focused on early traditional western and frontier adventures.  He loved learning the historical details and outdoor survival skills shared within these books.  Bruce loved to play card games.  His favorites were cribbage, euchre, poker keno and Liverpool; his favorite rivals were his family and friends.  Bruce enjoyed spending time at the local Ho-Chunk Bingo Hall and Casino, located “close to home in Sauk County.”

Bruce will be greatly missed by his immediate family, extended family, friends and community.   

Bruce is survived by his brother, Christopher Todd (Verna) Blackdeer; his daughters, Joanne, Christine and Mariah; and his niece, Felicia. 

Bruce was preceded in death by his grandparents, Earl and Eva (Littlebear) Blackdeer and Edwin Greengrass and Bessie Youngbear; by his parents, William P. and Lila Blackdeer; his sister, Adrienne; and his brother, Aaron; his son, Dalton; and his niece, Molly Mann.
