CHRIS A. WINSON

CHRIS A. WINSON
Chris A. Winson, 72, of Merrillan passed away Friday Sept. 12, at his home. He was born Feb. 28, 1953 in Black River Falls to Claude and Violet (Cooper) Winson.
Chris was raised in Merrillan, WI, and was a 1971 graduate of Lincoln High School.
He was united in marriage to Myrna (Peterson) Jan. 14, 1984, at Upper Pigeon Creek Lutheran Church, Northfield, WI. Chris and Myrna resided in Merrillan and chose to raise their daughters near family rather than move out of Wisconsin. Chris worked numerous jobs in his life, but worked mostly as a pipe-fitter in the Twin Cities area, retiring in 2017. He would spend winters at home full-time with his family until it was time to go back to work, coming back on the weekends to spend time with his family and his hobbies.
Chris was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed many deer hunting trips to Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota and only missed one Wisconsin deer opener in 2020 - a choice he was forced to make. He had many hunting buddies through the years, and it’s a tie whether his favorite was Russ Young or his daughter Michelle. But, it was probably his hunting dogs - until they didn’t listen. He also spent many winters hunting coyotes - spending many mornings with his daughters in the truck before dropping them off at school. He also spent numerous Saturdays hunting pheasant and shooting trap with his buddies and his brother, Dan. If he wasn’t outdoors, you could find him indoors playing card games with his family and friends, tinkering in his garage - building numerous pieces of furniture, reading western books and watching his favorite teams, the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers.
He is survived by his daughters, Bridget (Dustin) Kersey of Roseville, MN, and Michelle (Nick) Winson of St. Anthony, MN; his dogs Katie and Ben; sister Kathie Heath of Black River Falls; and brother Dan (Doreen) Winson of Merrillan; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be remembered fondly by his many relatives and a wide circle of friends who were like family to him.
Chris was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Myrna; father Claude and mother Violet; sister Gloria Rupnow; brothers-in-law Chuck Rupnow and Jim (Hook) Heath; in-laws Merlin and Alberta Peterson; and notable hunting dogs Barney and Max.
Services for Chris will take place Saturday, Oct. 25, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home in Hixton, WI, with invitations to share memories at 2 p.m. Dress is informal; we ask to honor Dad’s interests to wear camouflage, blaze orange, Green Bay Packers or Milwaukee Brewers attire.
