DUANE PETERSON

     Duane Wallace Peterson, 80, of Melrose passed away Oct. 6, 2022, at his home.

     Duane was born June 29, 1942, in Black River Falls, WI, to Wallace and Katherine (Stetzer) Peterson. On Oct. 5, 1963, he was married to Jane Piper of Sparta, WI, with whom he spent his life until his passing.

     A dairy farmer by trade, one of Duane’s biggest loves in his life was horses. As a child, he would ride horse to deliver sack lunches and inspect fences on the farm. Later in life, Duane enjoyed gymkhana, an equestrian event involving racing and timed events on horseback. He also enjoyed the outdoors, and was an avid deer hunter and fisherman. After retiring from farming, Duane spent some time assisting the military with training exercise at Fort McCoy in Wisconsin.  

     Duane is survived by his wife, Jane; sons Paul Peterson and Mark (Colleen) Peterson; brother Carl (Sylvia) Peterson; nephew Carl Edward Peterson; and grandchildren Nathan, Logan, Lindsey and Laura Peterson. 

     He is preceded in death by his parents. 

     A funeral service for Duane will be held Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022, at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Melrose, WI. Family and friends are invited to visitation at the church starting at 1 p.m. until the start of services.
