DWAINE GEORGE BUSSE
Dwaine George Busse died peacefully at home Thursday, May 23, 2024.
Dwaine began his journey Feb. 4, 1940 in Sparta, WI. He was the son of George and Hazel (Tessman) Busse. Dwaine spent most of his life in Melrose, WI. He attended and graduated from the Melrose Elementary and Melrose High School. After graduating, he enlisted and served in the United States Army. He was stationed at Fort Snelling, Minneapolis, MN. Dwaine was with the 3rd Missile Battalion 68th Artillery Division. During his time in the military, he was awarded the M1 and Carbide Rifle Expert Award.
After his time in the army, he started working at Fort McCoy in their Communications Division. During that time, he visited many offices to make repairs and was fondly referred to as Buzzy. He later had an opportunity to be trained in the electrical Division. Dwaine discovered that he really enjoyed electrical work and after retiring from Fort McCoy he started his own business. He helped many people and found the work very rewarding whether the job was big or small.
Dwaine married Ruth Veraguth July 26, 1969. They were married 54 years and were blessed with two wonderful children, Valerie and Dean. Dwaine was a loving father and his family was his pride and joy. He always made time for family. Dwaine didn’t miss anything the kids were involved in, whether at home, school, church, 4-H or the Jackson County Fair. He dedicated countless hours giving, supporting, and encouraging his children’s dreams.
Since Dwaine was a little boy growing up in Melrose, his favorite spot was the Mill Pond. It holds many fun memories and was enjoyed by everyone young and old. He was able to ride his bike to the pond to enjoy fishing, camping, swimming or just getting into, spending time with friends. You could often hear his mother calling him home from the pond for dinner from their front steps.
Dwaine loved the outdoors. He planted several trees in Melrose, and when he was older, he planted many trees on his farm. He cut and maintained many trails through the woods for everyone to enjoy. He was so proud of his trails and loved to share them by taking friends and family for rides in the woods. He found beauty and enjoyed every season. He was also an avid hunter. He built his own hunting cabin out of logs with some help from his dad. There was always room for family in the hunting cabin. He was a good and responsible hunter, which he instilled in his children.
Dwaine was a master at building and fixing things. He was always willing to give a neighbor or friend a helping hand when needed. He was always busy and built many things, such as his own tractor, car, snowmobile, mud bug and wood splitter. He was very crafty with wood as well and built his own lathe, which he used to make many things out of wood especially black walnut. He also enjoyed working with oak and built a beautiful gun cabinet, china hutch and many tables and shelves.
Dwaine loved his family and always put them first. He listened with his heart and will be missed greatly.
Dwaine was preceded in death by his parents, George and Hazel (Tessman) Busse, his sister, Donna Kostohryz, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Dwaine is survived by his wife, Ruth Busse, daughter Valerie, son Dean, sister Bonnie (Ray) Nortman and many nieces and nephews.
The family of Dwaine would like to thank the nurses and aids that cared for him at the end and helped to make him more comfortable. The family would also like to send a special thank you to the many friends and neighbors that stopped in to visit, offer prayers or extend a helping hand. Your kindness and generosity did not go unnoticed.
Funeral services for Dwaine will take place Friday, May 31, 2024, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Melrose at 11 a.m. Pastor Chad Seypt will be officiating. Friends and family are invited to visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at the Melrose Cemetery.
The Torgerson’s Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
