EDWARD BRUDOS

 

     Edward Tollef Brudos, 90, of Black River Falls, WI, passed away Thursday, May 25, 2023. 

     Ed was born on June 27, 1932, in La Crosse, WI, to George and Ruth (Morton) Brudos. He was confirmed at Lewis Valley Lutheran Church and graduated from high school in Mindoro, WI. Ed married Doris Lee at Halfway Creek Lutheran Church in Holmen, WI, Dec. 6, 1952, before being deployed to Germany in the Army.

     Ed was known as an extremely hard-working man, owning Brudos Dairy, a door-to-door milk route based in Westby, WI; Ed’s By Pass Mobil station in Tomah to Ed’s Mobil in Black River Falls when the interstate opened. After his first retirement, he managed the garage and then the hardware division of the Federation Cooperative in Black River Falls; his next retirement job was at the Four Seasons Co-op Station, where he worked full time up to age 84.  

     Ed loved his gardens, sharing his produce with all who would receive, with a passion for asparagus and raspberries. He also loved his cattle and putting up his own hay. Ed was a member of the Miles-Hagel American Legion Post #200 of Black River Falls, as well as the Evangelical Lutheran Church and could often be found washing dishes in the church basement with Lou Musser, Tom Ristiben, Roger Johnson and others after church events. He also restored over three dozen wood cookstoves - many of them still in use today.

     Ed is survived by his wife Doris; daughters Lori Brudos-Scharlau and Sue (Jody) Bjerke; grandchildren David (Suzan), Joshua (Heather) and Lee (Sara) Wyss, Jason (Nicole), Cory (Jill) and Jim (Alisha) Bjerke and step-granddaughter Savanna (Kelly) Scharlau; great-grandchildren Zachary, Ashley, Kaleb, Kaylee, Jackson, Nora, Lief, Silas, Bosco, Siri and Drake Wyss, Lauren, Brayden, Austin and Harper Bjerke; step-great-grandchildren Emma Watkins, Skye Scharlau and Ava Campbell; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ed is also survived by brother Kenneth (Emily) Brudos of Albuquerque, NM; sister Virginia Luckasson of Cashton, WI; and brother-in-law Raymond (Marge) Lee of Holmen, WI

     Ed is preceded in death by his parents George and Ruth Brudos; brother Robert Brudos; sister Jeanette Veldey; in-laws Oscar and Helga Lee; and son-in-law James Scharlau.

     Funeral services for Ed will be held Wednesday, May 31, 2023, beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Black River Falls. Pastor Jenny Hatleli will officiate. Visitation will be held from noon until the start of services at 1:30.

     The family requests memorials be directed to the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Evangelical Lutheran Church Radio Fund, American Legion Miles-Hagen Post 200 and Jackson County Interfaith Caregivers.
