HILMA JOANNE JACOBSON

HILMA JOANNE JACOBSON
Our dear sister and aunt, Hilma Joanne Jacobson, went home to Heaven June 26, 2025. Hilma was born to Harold and Julia Jacobson of rural Hixton, WI, where she was the seventh of 10 children born on the Jacobson farm. Along with her siblings, she attended elementary school in the one-room, York schoolhouse and high school in Hixton. Hilma was known for her beautiful singing voice and with three of her sisters, performed in church and at other events around the area. As “The Jacobson Sisters,” they recorded an album of favorite hymns.
Following high school, Hilma attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire where she received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education. After graduating from college, she studied Christian Education and General Bible Studies at Lutheran Bible Institute in Golden Valley, MN. Hilma was a beloved teacher of small children for many years, and all the children were very special to her. As a teacher, Hilma loved learning and travel and became a lifelong learner who traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe.
Hilma was a treasured part of her big family. She had a way of making each of us feel so special. Her kindness, her trademark generosity and her strong faith were all part of who she was, and she will be dearly missed. In the last two years of her life, Hilma was cared for by her loving niece, Jane Ohlrogge Simpson of Osseo, WI, and the nurses of St. Croix Hospice.
Hilma is survived by her sisters, Alice Ohlrogge, Betty (Jack) Mansfield and Marian (Ron) Paulson; and sister-in-law Twila Jacobson, as well as many devoted nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Hilma was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Willard, Eldon, Harlan, Donald and Richard; and her sister, Evelyn Johnson.
A celebration of Hilma’s life will be held Saturday, July 19, at 11 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Pigeon Falls, WI, followed by lunch. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. We ask that remembrances of Hilma be sent to ELCA World Hunger or Lutheran World Relief, causes that were dear to her heart.
Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
