John Bassi Sr.

     John Francis Bassi, Sr., 85, passed away unexpectedly April 6, 2022, at home in Rosholt.

     John was born Sept. 27, 1936. in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Pasquale and Maria Conchetta (Trifiletti) Bassi. After graduating from Simon Gratz High School in Philadelphia in 1954, John joined the United States Marine Corps and proudly served until 1962. 

     After moving to Wisconsin in 1974, John worked a variety of different jobs. He continued working until 1979, upon opening his first store, J & A Liquidators in Merrillan. John took a passion to being a business owner and traveling in search of merchandise for his store. Throughout the years, he was fortunate enough to open another two stores in the state of Wisconsin. Following his retirement, John couldn’t stay idle for a lengthy amount of time and decided to work for Abby Vans transporting the elderly and disabled. He served the community until officially retiring at the age of 80 years old.

     On March 7, 1989, John was bonded in marriage to the love of his life, Karen. The ceremony took place at the Las Vegas Wedding Gardens in Nevada. Throughout the years, John and Karen cherished traveling together across the United States by motorcycle and RV. The pair enjoyed searching for antiques and finding that perfect piece of décor for their home. They created a comfortable and fulfilling life together until Karen became ill. John stood by her side and cared for Karen until her passing in 2019.

     John is survived by his four children, Michelle (Scott) Budsberg, Andrea Kinning, Edward Bassi and John Bassi, Jr.; his sisters, Theresa (the late Bill) Palma and Rita Park. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. John will be missed by Bo, his beloved poodle, who laid by his side until his very last day.

     He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen, and parents, Pasquale and Mary Bassi.

     By his wishes, he will be cremated, and family will have a private ceremony at a later date.
