LAURA ANTONIA JONES

LAURA ANTONIA JONES
Laura Antonia Jones, 95, died Saturday June 25, 2022, at Black River Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family and caregivers. Laura was born May 22, 1927, on her grandfather’s farm in Komensky Township to James and Blanche (Brauner) Melichar. Laura spoke only Czech up until she started school in Black River Falls and eventually graduated from Black River Falls High School.
As a young lady, she moved to the Chicago area looking for work and found employment with Western Electric. While working there, she got on an elevator when her high heel got stuck in the gap between the floor and the elevator car; low and behold, an engineer, Thomas C. “Tom” Jones, came to her rescue freeing the broken heel. It was love at first sight. Together, they were blessed with their only daughter, Pamela. In 1967, Tom was transferred, and the family moved to Ballwin, MO, where they lived through his retirement. During that time, they traveled all over Europe and enjoyed taking cruises, both domestic and international.
Surviving Laura are family members, including her loving daughter, Pamela Jones; her sister, Vivian Simons; and sister-in-law Sharon Melichar; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Laura was preceded in death by her husband Tom Jones; her parents; her brother, James Melichar; sisters Marie Melichar and Alice (Robert) Rochester; and a brother-in-law Virgil Simons.
Funeral Services for Laura were held Friday, July 1, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Trout Run Methodist Church, N4292 Co. Rd. X, Black River Falls, WI. Pastor John Paul officiated.
