LAVERNE LAGAISSE

     LaVerne LaGaisse, 77, of Fairchild, WI, passed peacefully Sunday, May 12, 2024, in his home as he wished.

     LaVerne was born Oct. 31, 1946, to Charles Peter and Lorraine Marva (Batterson) Sr. in Rockford, IL. He graduated from Belvedere High School in 1964, he then joined the Air Force. After he got out of the military, he went to work at the Belvedere Chrysler plant. In 1976, LaVerne moved to Humbird, WI, to work for the Alma Center School District as the custodian manager. LaVerne retired in 2009 after 33 years.

     Nov. 7, 1969, LaVerne married Cheryl Cole. Cheryl passed in 2002. Dec. 4, 2004, LaVerne then married Betty Nelson.

     LaVerne was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and served as Commander of Post 320 of the American Legion. He enjoyed spending his time RVing and winters in Mississippi. He loved to salmon fish in Kewaunee, WI, read or watch western movies, watching the Green Bay Packers and just relax. 

     LaVerne is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Peter and Lorraine Marva; and his sister, Elodie Lorraine Zeien

     Surviving LaVerne is his brother, Charles LaGaisse Jr.; his wife, Betty; her children from previous marriage, Peggy (Mark) Jones, JoAnn (Tim Ojnecheck) Lightfoot, Roger Nelson, Butch (Nancy) Nelson and Deb (Mike) Bemis.

     A “Celebration of LaVerne’s Life” will be held starting at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the Fairchild Rod & Gun Club, 300 Pond Road, Fairchild.

     The family is assisted by Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta.
