LORAINE L. BUSSE

     Loraine L. Busse, 95, of Melrose, died Friday, May 30, 2025, at Gundersen Health System, La Crosse. She was born Dec. 28, 1929, in Sparta, WI, to Franz and Jessie (Van der Schaaf) Schamens. She grew up on a farm and graduated from Sparta High School and UW-La Crosse.

     Loraine married Lester Busse Sept. 6, 1953, at her parent’s home. They had one daughter, Carolyn. Together, they farmed near Melrose. After her husband’s death, she moved into Melrose.

     She was volunteer driver for Jackson County DHHS for over 30 years. She also did other volunteering jobs and taught Sunday School at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Melrose.

     Loraine is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Busse of La Crosse; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and many “borrowed” grandkids.

     She was proceeded in death by parents; husband Lester Busse; and siblings, Eileen Schamens, Marlow Schamens and Lois Butler.

     A funeral service will be held at 12 noon Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Melrose, with Pastor Chad Seybt officiating. Burial will follow in Melrose Cemetery.

     Family and friends are invited for visitation from 10:30 a.m. until 12 noon on Wednesday at the church.
