LORI ANN BRUDOS-SCHARLAU

 

     Lori Ann Brudos-Scharlau, 66, of Black River Falls, WI passed away Friday, Aug. 11, 2023, at home unexpectedly. Lori was born March 13, 1957, in Viroqua, WI, to Edward and Doris Brudos. As a young girl, Lori and her family moved to Black River Falls. 

     Lori was known as an extremely hard-working person with a passion for helping and mentoring others to the fullest. She was an entrepreneur at heart, working in sales, owning a clothing store in her 30s, at the local radio station for many years and selling insurance. Through all the years working, Lori would sell and create crafts that she eventually moved to her home, known as the “Allen Creek Country Store.” Lori would work all year long tirelessly to prepare many things made for the store. She sold countless craft items that were provided by her animals, created with her own hands by utilizing many self-taught crafting skills,  such as spinning wheels, looms, crocheting, knitting, quilting, etc. Lori purchased a home in Black River Falls to provide a space called “Creative Cottage” for women to gather, relax and be creative.

     Lori had a hobby farm that consisted of chickens and award-winning sheep. She was involved in North American Shetland Sheep Breeders Association (NASSA). Showing sheep in Jefferson, WI, with her grandchildren Zachary, Ashley, Skye and Ava. Lori loved her flower and vegetable gardens, sharing her produce with all who would receive it. 

     Lori is survived by her mother, Doris Brudos; children David (Suzi), Joshua (Heather), Lee (Sara) Wyss and Savanna (Kelly) Scharlau; sister Sue (Jody) Bjerke; grandchildren Darty, Peyton, Zachary, Kaleb, Kaylee, Ava, Ashley, Jackson, Nora, Leif, Silas, Skye, Bosco, Siri and Drake; and her devoted German shepherd, Hilde; along with many extended family members. 

     Lori is preceded in death by her father, Edward Brudos; and husband, James Scharlau.

     Funeral services for Lori will be held Friday, Aug. 18, 2023, at 11-12 p.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Black River Falls. Pastor Jenny Hatleli will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the start of services at 11 a.m. A celebration of life will be held at Sand Creek Brewery from 12-2 p.m.

     The family requests memorials be directed to the North American Shetland Sheepbreeders Association (NASSA) and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Black River Falls.
