Louis C. Murray, 78, of Melrose passed away Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2025, at Mulder Health Care Facility in West Salem, WI, after a battle with cancer. Louis was born July 23, 1947, in Black River Falls, WI, to William and Olivia (Paulson) Murray.
He attended Pleasant Valley School in the Town of Irving for grades one through six and later, attended Melrose Junior High and High School, graduating in 1966. After graduation, he continued to farm on the family farm; he liked doing the field work most of all.
On June 4, 1977, Louis married Debra Zier at St. Kevin’s in Melrose, WI. They welcomed into their home a daughter, Rebecca, and son, Thomas.
Louis enjoyed time with his family, especially watching his grandchildren in sports. He also enjoyed visiting with friends, going to auctions and watching basketball, baseball, football, and golf on television; he, also, loved watching Jeopardy and Wheel-of-Fortune.
Louis is survived by his wife, Debra, of 48 years; daughter Rebecca (Chris) Radcliffe; son Thomas; grandsons Griffin Murray and Willard Radcliffe; granddaughters Lilly and Anna Radcliffe; brother John Murray; sisters Margaret Meacham, Arlyce (Rod) Everson, Mary (Curt) Woods and Jan (Jerry) Schmidt; sister-in-law Bonnie Murray; brother and sister-in-law Sam and Linnea Zier; sister and brother-in-law Rebecca and Sid Johnson; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents, William and Olivia Murray; brothers, Bernard and Clair Murray; brother-in-law Mark Meacham; father- and mother-in-law, Clarence and Wilma Zier; brother-in-law Daniel Zier; sister and brother-in-law Janis and Neil McCarron, and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 2025, at St. Kevin’s Catholic Church, Melrose, WI, with Fr. Arivu Mariappan officiating. Visitation began at 9 a.m. until the time of service. Burial was in the Melrose Cemetery. A luncheon was served at the Old School.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Gundersen Medical Center and Mulder Health Care Facility for the care given to Louis.
