NORETTA E. MORAN

     Noretta E. Moran, 84, of Portage, passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 17, 2023, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison.

     Noretta was born Sept. 28, 1938, in Hixton, WI, the daughter of Louis and Charlotte “Lottie” (Johnson) Moe. She was married to Maynard Vold in November of 1956, and later married Charles “Chuck” Moran. 

     Noretta had worked as a baker in the deli and then as assistant manager at Iron Skillet. She enjoyed playing cards, especially Whist, doing word puzzles and crocheting. Noretta loved baking, making wedding cakes and especially her lefse and Norwegian foods. 

     She is survived by her children, Marlys (Steve Schneider) Kerr, Kevin (Lisa) Vold, and Melanie (Shawn) Wasson; grandchildren Amber (Jason) Bakken, Jessica (Chris) Okan, Christopher Kerr, Matthew Vold, Ashley Wasson and Sarah (J.J.) Dittman; her great-grandchildren, J.T. Femrite and expecting baby Dittman in November; other near relatives and many close friends.

     She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Maynard Vold; her second husband, Chuck Moran; and her brothers, Leonard and LaVerne Moe.

     Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, 2023, at Pflanz Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2023, at South Beef River Cemetery in Jackson County, Wisconsin.
