Ray Junior Thompson, 92, of Hixton, formerly of Northfield/Whitehall, WI, passed away Thursday, Feb. 19, 2026, at Pine View Care Center in Black River Falls, WI.
He was born May 22, 1933, in Back River Falls, WI, to Raymond and Orien (Bergerson) Thompson. Ray grew up in Northfield on the family dairy farm and graduated from Whitehall High School. He went on to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force.
Ray was united in marriage to Dorothy Carlson Oct. 18, 1953, at the parsonage in Pigeon Falls, WI. Together, they raised three children and enjoyed many happy years together. Ray was well-known as the owner of several service stations in Whitehall. He later worked as a truck driver for Lunda Construction.
In his free time, he loved gardening, berry picking and spending time at his cabin in May Coulee. Ray also restored cars and enjoyed hunting and trout fishing. He loved any chance to travel or go out dancing, but most of all he loved visiting with people. He was known for his sense of humor and great smile.
Ray is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Dorothy Thompson of Black River Falls; three children, Heidi (Dave) Tomten of Eau Claire, Penelope Schultz of Whitehall and Calvin (Kathleen) Thompson of Black River Falls; six grandchildren, Blair and Berit Tomten, Heather (Kevin) Moats, Sheena (Mark) Dehnke, Jacquelyn (Jay) Clark and Lucas (Nicole) Thompson; six great-grandchildren, Dylan, Dakota, Everly, Rowin, Stella and Griffin; brother-in-law Anthony (Jane) Carlson; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Mona Faye (Mike) Anderson; and two sisters-in-law, Patricia (Leland) Hanson and Geraldine (Leon) Mansell.
The family would like to thank Pine View Care Center and St. Croix Hospice for their excellent care of Ray.
Memorials are preferred to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hixton or Upper Pigeon Creek Cemetery Association.
Memorial services for Ray will be held at a later date at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hixton, WI. Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton is assisting the family with arrangements.
