ROBERT CLEVELAND, “GOOBER” “MĄĄXISGA HANĄĄŽĮ”

     Robert Cleveland, “Goober” “Mąąxisga Hanąąžį,” 70, walked on to Eternal Life Friday, May 26, 2023, at the Agrace Hospice Care Center in Madison, WI. 

     Robert was born July 25, 1952, in Black River Falls to Albert Cleveland and Nina (Greendeer) Cleveland and attended school in the Black River Falls area.

     Robert liked to dabble in many things, like music, singing, fishing and drawing. He also liked to carve wood and stone and would make tobacco pipes out of them. Robert was a great cook, especially when he was grilling food - spare ribs were his specialty, and he walked everywhere! He had a passion for restoring old furniture and would do so in his free time. Robert was employed with different landscaping companies throughout the years and enjoyed the outdoors and doing yard work. 

     Robert is survived by his daughters, Alison Cleveland, Fonda (Edward) Blackdeer, Carly (Travis) Haugstad and Lavinia (Brent) Brookshaw; his brothers Wilbert (C-Ann) Cleveland, Herbert (Paula) Cleveland, Wilfrid Cleveland and Steven (Sheila) Cleveland; his sisters, Tina McArthur and Rita (Bill) Gardner; his grandchildren Heaven O’Brien, Autumn O’Brien, Devin (Paizlee) O’Brien, Aaron O’Brien, Ryder Haugstad and Lakyn Haugstad; his great-grandchildren Abel Hernandez, Ryland O’Brien, Molly O’Brien, Kashus Schoenfuss, Illias Dominguez and Finn O’Brien.

     He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Nina Cleveland; an infant sister, Mercedes Cleveland; his brothers, Delbert Cleveland and Lambert Cleveland Sr; his sister, Alberta (Cleveland) Decorah; his son, Albert Cleveland; his niece, Nina WhiteEagle; and nephew Daniel WhiteEagle.

     Native American Church Services were at 1 p.m. Monday, May 29, 2023, at the District 1 Community Center, N7261 Warrior Ave., Black River Falls, WI 54615, with Joseph WhiteEagle officiating. Burial followed at Decorah Cemetery in rural Black River Falls, WI. Visitation was held at 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 28, 2023, at the District 1 Community Center.

     The Buswell Funeral Home of Black River Falls assisted with arrangements, 715-284-2231.
