TROY JAMES PETERSON
The family of Troy James Peterson, 59, of Merrillan, WI, is deeply saddened to announce his passing Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025.
Troy will be lovingly remembered by his son, Hayden (Ashley) Peterson, and his cherished new grandson, Theo; his siblings Debrah (Dennis) Householder and Jeff, Craig, Jason and Jim; as well as numerous other family members and dear friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Beverly Peterson.
Born March 25, 1965, in Black River Falls and raised as a child in Disco, WI, Troy graduated from Black River Falls High School in 1983 before enlisting in the United States Navy. From 1983 to 1991, he served with honor aboard the nuclear submarines USS Sargo (1985 to 1988) and USS Pogy (1989 to 1991). It is believed that Troy was the last to leave the USS Sargo upon its decommissioning in 1988. Following his military service, he moved to Kewaunee, WI, where he worked in operations, maintenance and engineering at the Kewaunee Nuclear Power Station from 1991 until its closure in 2013. He then relocated to the East Coast, continuing his career in the nuclear power industry until his retirement in 2019. After retiring, he relocated back to his hometown in the Black River Falls area.
Troy embraced retirement by fulfilling his passions, renovating a cabin in Hatfield, mulling ideas, golfing, traveling/road trips, cheering on the Packers and most of all, reconnecting and spending time with his family and friends. A wise, hardworking, and loving father, his greatest pride in life was raising his son, Hayden. In every phase of Troy’s life, he made beloved friends and close connections that he kept actively in touch with until his passing. Troy’s presence, wisdom, willingness to lend a helping hand and humor will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Black River Falls, WI. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by a service at 12 p.m. A luncheon will be held at 1 p.m. following the service, where family and friends are invited to gather and share memories.
