Verland Casper

     Verland D. Casper, 79, of Black River Falls passed away Thursday, March 10, 2022, at Mayo Clinic in Eau Claire. He was born Nov. 19, 1942, in Black River Falls to Glen and Ledra Casper.

     Verland grew up in Merrillan. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the Army, serving in the 101st Airborne Division. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he began working at the iron mine until the time of its closure. After his career in the iron mine, he began a job sanding floors for gymnasiums around the entire Midwest. For the last 20 years of his career, he worked in construction as a member of the local 141 Laborer’s Union until his retirement at 74 years of age. He was a member of the Alma Center American Legion. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed many hobbies, which included gardening, fishing, exercising and traveling. He was passionate about the wildlife that visited his yard.

     Verland is survived by his children, Verland Glenn (Selena) Casper and Kimberly (Joseph) Tomlinson; grandchildren Devin (Natasha) Casper, Cole Casper and Alexa Tomlinson; great-grandchildren Ainsley and Kourtlynn Casper; siblings Karen Burnett and Calvin (Sharon) Olson; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Francis Casper; and the mother of his children, Carol Doud.

     A celebration of Verland’s life will be held Saturday, March 19, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the American Legion Post #200 in Black River Falls.
