VERLAND (CHUB) PETERSON

VERLAND (CHUB) PETERSON

Verland Lewis (Chub) Peterson, 89, of Black River Falls passed away peacefully Jan. 7, 2023.

Chub was born Sept. 25, 1933, to Merlin J. and Etta (Chrisinger) Peterson. He was raised in Black River Falls and graduated high school in 1951.

On June 25, 1954, Chub married the love of his life, Arlene Collins. Chub always said, “Arlene was the prettiest girl he ever saw!” To this union, six children were born.

Chub’s passion was always farming. In 1958, Chub and Arlene purchased the family farm in Kenyon Valley. Farming wasn’t always easy, but with the help of hired men and then the kids when they got bigger, Chub and his family made it work. Then came the grandkids, who couldn’t wait to get out to the barn and help with the chores, the younger ones helping with the calves, and the older ones working in the fields. The family was always important to Chub and spoiling his grandkids and great-grandkids was his favorite thing to do.

Chub also enjoyed playing Euchre and watching sports on TV; his “Dodgers” were his favorite team.

Aside from farming, Chub also worked at Midland and Byrns Equipment.

Chub is survived by his children, Scott (Wendy) Peterson, Connie Peterson, Cindy Jessie, Mindy (Neil) Kubina and Barry (Becky) Peterson; his grandchildren Laura (Doug) Lindow, Sierra (Tyson) Burruss, Audrey (Andrew) Pfaffe, Fawn Jessie, Miranda Jessie, Adam (Heather Kitzman) Shaw, Aaron Shaw, Paige (Mike Hall) Shaw, Ryan Kubina, Kelsey (Josh Loining) Peterson, Jacob Peterson, Kyle (Samantha Beaulieu) Peterson and Julia (Nate Johnson) Peterson; great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Chub is also survived by his siblings, Larry Peterson, Marian Hagen, Lois Ferries and Judy (Ole) Olson and sisters-in-law Charlotte Peterson, Marion Collins and Donna Lee Storandt.

Chub is preceded in death by his wife of nearly 65 years, Arlene; his daughter, Peggy; grandsons Michael Peterson and Jordan Jessie; his parents, Merlin and Etta Peterson; in-laws Roy Collins and Alice and Chet Brushafer; his sister, Carol Lambert; his brother Eugene Peterson; and his brothers-in-law Duane Lambert, Kerwood Hagen, Neil Collins and Earl Storandt.

Pallbearers are Adam, Aaron and Aidan Shaw; Ryan Kubina and Jake, and Kyle Peterson.

Visitation was held Friday, Jan. 13, 2023, at Little Norway Lutheran Church, N4755 Gus Rd, Black River Falls, WI, from 4 to 6 p.m. Services were held Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023, at 11 a.m. with Reverend Calvin Thoreson officiating. Interment followed at Little Norway Cemetery.
